| Summer Surf Camp - Warm Water Jetties, Carlsbad |
Carlson Surf Academy offers supervised weekly surf camps for kids between the ages of 6- 17. Our camps are designed to not only teach kids the safe, fun, and responsible way to enjoy surfing but also to build and develop strong character through encouragement, positive feedback and a respect for one's self, others and the environment. We believe surfing is an effective tool for building confidence and self-reliance and our commitment to you is to provide an ideal atmosphere for teaching these valuable life lessons...and also to have a blast riding the waves! We invite you to join us this summer. All shapes, sizes and abilities welcome! Each camp is divided into two separate 3 1/2 hour sessions, morning and afternoon. Each session has a maximum class capacity of 12 students with a 3:1 student to instructor ratio. PRICES: Session A (Morning) - 8:00 am - 11:30 am Session B (Afternoon) 12:00 pm - 3:30 pm $250 each session or $450 for both. (Non-refundable $50 deposit for each registration) **Half-week sessions available - Inquire for details** **Discounted ($200, $350) Session Prices for week of June 30 - July 3** THE CAMP: CSA will arrive to the beach 1 hour prior to the start of the class to set up the "Home Base" pop tent, camp perimeter and conduct morning staff meeting. The success of the camp relies on the collaborative effort between the Instructor staff and Camp Supervisor and we have the utmost confidence in both. Each student will have their own surfboard, wetsuit (optional), and rash-guard. CAMP SUPERVISOR: How many surf schools can boast conducting a complete criminal background and federal fingerprinting database check before appointing someone to supervise your children all day long? We can! Did I also mention CPR and First-Aid certified as well. It's not everyday that you find a high school teacher thrilled to spend their summers teaching kids how to surf. From the classroom to the beach, Dorothy isn't just an awesome surfer she also runs the show Monday - Friday and is responsible for checking students in and out each session. Additionally, it is her responsibility to observe instruction in the water, manage the session time and break schedule and prepare mid-session snacks and beverages. Not a bad summer gig I'd say! INSTRUCTOR STAFF: Lead by our main water man Jesse, each CPR and First Aid Certified instructor is assigned 2-3 students in the group. The entire class then warms-up together with a series of light, fun exercises. After warm-up, the class participates in a "Safety-Roll Call" where instructors review procedures for safe surfing and make interactive ocean observations. The class is then divided into previously assigned groups for personalized instruction on form and stance. After ocean conditions have been reviewed and deemed safe by the lead instructor, the class enters the water and the real fun begins. In a circular pattern, two outside instructors receive rotating groups of students, then help them safely maneuver into waves. Two inside instructors observe and instruct as the students make their way to shore before relaying each student back out. This technique keeps the party moving, assuring every student ample opportunity to catch plenty of waves. Water depths generally don't exceed waist high but exceptions are made based on student skill and class size. No matter what...surf's always up! BREAK SCHEDULE: Both morning and afternoon camps will take a 20 minute break at the session half-way point. Complimentary beverages and snacks are served under the pop-tent and kids are given the opportunity to kick back and relax in the shade. End of Week Certificate Presentation: On Friday, each student will be presented their very own certificate of completion along with a Carlson Surf Academy T-shirt. |
